Filippo and Angela Argenti were married in Acquaviva delle Fonti on April 27, 1930. Filippo's 30 birthday. Angela was 25 years of age and born and raised in Acquaviva delle Fonti. They were excited to settle down and start a family. Filippo had worked 10 long years in New York City in the ice industry. He worked hard, and saved his money to buy land in Cassano delle Murge, Italy, his home town. Prior to working in New York City, Filippo was a tree surgeon, and would maintain the olive and almond trees. He would ride his horse Bianco to the countryside, work, and rest in his "trullo" (cone shaped structures common in Apuglia) amongst the trees.
But, soon after the marriage of Filippo and Angela, Mussolini had declared was in Ethiopia. Filippo feared going to fight in war and did not believe in the dictator's political views. So, Filippo and Angela embarked for New York City where Filippo was familiar with the area, and knew he would find work. Angela was distraught over this decision. She never wanted to leave Italy and her family. But her father, Andre Gentile persuaded her that it was the right decision, and hopefully, it would only be a few short years.
Those few years turned into 18 due to WWII, before Filippo, Angela and now 3 children, Lilly (18 years old), Marcella (13 1/2 years old), and Andy (3 years old) would finally return.....
The rest one needs to see in the movie, American Destiny. A family movie for all with a message that applies to so many worldwide that must make painful decisions to leave their home and family, and start all over in a new place, often with different languages, cultures, and traditions...
